When hell freezes over est la première exposition solo en Europe de l’artiste américaine Leah Moskowitz, basée à New-York. En amont de l’exposition, Leah Moskowitz a été accueillie par Rond-Point Projects pour une résidence de recherche et de production de trois semaines à Marseille, à l’invitation de la commissaire Natasha Marie Llorens.

When hell freezes over  est une expression en Anglais qui désigne ce moment où l’inconcevable se produit. La manière dont Moskowitz complète la formule par la proposition heaven gets hot [les cieux se réchauffent] peut être vue comme une provocation rhétorique. Le réchauffement accru de toutes choses est le phénomène par lequel les conséquences de la consommation globale incontrôlée se manifestent, et parfois en réaction certaines choses deviennent terriblement froides. Nous sommes entrés dans une époque où les températures les plus extrêmes ne sont plus impensables, y compris dans le domaine de la spéculation théologique.

Spécifiquement pensée et produite pour l’espace de Rond-Point Projects, l’installation “Heaven gets hot when Hell freezes over” conjugue photographie, composition sonore ainsi que différents matériaux et objets ordinaires pour représenter, par le biais d’une série d’analogies matérielles, la complexité de l’impasse dans laquelle nous nous trouvons et sa dimension structurelle sous-jacente. Nous sommes foutus. Et c’est encore la saison des abricots.

“Heaven gets hot when Hell freezes over”  is the first European solo exhibition by New-York based artist Leah Moskowitz. Prior to the exhibition, the artist was invited by Rond-Point Projects and curator Natasha Marie Llorens for a three weeks residency in Marseille.

« When hell freezes over »  is an expression in English used to describe a moment when the inconceivable will take place. The addition by Moskowitz of the turn of phrase, heaven gets hot, is a rhetorical provocation. Everything gets hot as the consequences of rampant globalized consumption manifest, and then sometimes things get very cold in reaction. We are no longer in an age where there is some temperature that is impossible. Perhaps not even in the space of theological fantasy.

“Heaven gets hot when Hell freezes over” responds directly to the site of the gallery and includes a sound composition, photographic elements and an installation in the space made up of found material. The project is an attempt to represent the complexity of the impasse in which we find ourselves by making a series of material analogies to the underlying structural problem. We are fucked. And it is still apricot season.
